About ElectroEtch Enterprises

Devoted to the preservation of traditional etching techniques by ecological methods.......

The mission of ElectroEtch Enterprises is to continue to improve on non toxic printmaking techniques by developing, improving  and propagating   knowledge of very low voltage anodic etching. ElectroEtch is a system. It is the only non toxic method of plate making that allows printmakers to work and rework zinc and copper plates using all traditional etching techniques established over the last 500 years, as well as some fascinating new ones. These include reworking of non toxic photoetch plates. Look and see what other printmakers think about it.

ElectroEtch is safe and extremely simple. It is run in a standard, narrow and vertical tank using zinc or copper sulfate solution, which never has to be changed.  Only one plate holder is needed; this avoids the use of clips that do leave marks. One large copper cathode acts as a receiver for copper, a zinc plate is used when etching zinc, regardless of whether the plate is 1" x 1" or 36" x 24".

Marion R. Behr and Omri Behr, a husband and wife team, are the co-inventors who have combined their knowledge and education to create this new non toxic printmaking method. Marion holds an MFA in painting from Syracuse University studied with Robert Conover and trained with Master Printer Mohammad Khalil for 10 years. Her work is being exhibited in many countries and she has lectured extensively throughout the United States. Marion has been developing ElectroEtch for the past 9 years. Omri is a Ph.D chemist who strayed into the law as a patent attorney and was delighted to get back into the lab when Marion complained about acid problems, which they then solved together.

ElectroEtch Enterprises is located in a 1500 square foot studio in Somerset County, New Jersey, about 75 miles west of New York City. It has been visited and used by Master Printers, University teachers and exhibiting artists. Other visitors include the local herd of about 15 deer.

ElectroEtch Enterprises welcomes inquiries from studios and Universities that want to continue or resume etching using non toxic printmaking methods which meet the legal and ethical requirements of a pure environment. We will arrange seminars on the process at your institution upon reasonable notice.
